Venue: Machynys Golf Club and Spa Resort, Llanelli
Date: 25th August 2016
Danni Watts-Jones, MD of DWJ Wealth Management Ltd and Tracey Jones and Dean Beniamous, Directors of Fergusons Chartered Accountants, Gorseinon, Swansea, joined forces, pooling their resources to sponsor and organise a charity golf day in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, at Machynys Golf Resort & Spa.
Their aim was to raise awareness and funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust whilst clients, sponsors and associates could enjoy a relaxing but competitive round of golf.
The condition has personally touched the lives of the sponsors recently when Kristie Lear, the daughter of close friends Anne & Simon Lear, lost her brave battle against the condition in her early 20s. Anne & Simon’s family have tirelessly raised funds for the charity over a number of years, organising various fundraising events in the process.
After elevenses of bacon rolls and coffee, golfers set off to play the course. Everyone was kept well nourished and hydrated throughout the day, via ‘meals on wheels’ - or more precisely - golf buggies, which were loaded up with coolboxes of snacks and cold drinks.
Danni and Tracey criss-crossed the course in their buggies, taking care not to put the golfers off their shots, and arriving on cue with golf umbrellas when a light shower appeared on an otherwise sunny day.
Back at the clubhouse, golfers received their awards for displays of excellence, before sitting down to enjoy an early dinner. A raffle, with prizes donated by sponsors from the local area and further afield, boosted the fundraising total.
One of the happy golfers toasted the organisers’ efforts, saying “This is one of the best corporate events I’ve ever been to”. Enthusiastic golfers, associates and clients travelled from as far afield as Gloucester and Somerset to lend their support on the day.
Thanks to the generous support of corporate sponsors and players, £990 was raised and the proceeds donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
This is to be an annual event to raise money for other local, well-deserving charities whilst giving clients and sponsors the chance to mix business with pleasure. There are other fundraising events in the pipeline.
The generous contributors and sponsors of the Golf Day were:
- Dr Organic, Swansea
- Fergusons Accountants
- Gwydr Upholstery
- JCP Solicitors
- Shabby Chicks
